MMM Program Update

The Master of Medical Management program leadership is currently conducting an assessment of the program, and will pause new enrollments beginning in Spring 2026. Please direct any questions to David Eber in our Office of Admissions and Financial Aid: deber@cmu.edu.

The Master of Medical Management (MMM) program at Carnegie Mellon University is designed exclusively for physicians with five or more years of post-residency experience who want to lead health care organizations. This 18-month, cohort-based program blends leadership, management and business instruction with specialized health care management training, delivered in a hybrid online and on-campus format. During the program, physicians receive one-on-one executive coaching to advance their careers. The program includes a Washington, D.C., residency, where participants engage with health policy professionals and explore the impact of health care strategy in government.

Medical Management Program Objectives

  1. Healthcare Leadership: Inspire confidence in others and use positive techniques of influence when responding to others and moving through challenges.
  2. Strategic Practice: Leverage resources to implement evidence-based solutions through analysis of situational and environmental climate.
  3. Management of Information: Apply quantitative skill to elect and convert data into meaningful information to deliver outcome-focused improvements.
  4. Essential Management Literacy: Understand complexities of regulatory and political healthcare business setting and use practical stewardship techniques.

Pathways to the Master of Medical Management Program

The Admissions committee is pleased to review any previous coursework you've taken on your own, either through your workplace or at a conference.

CMU has established relationships with the American Association for Physician Leadership, Society of Hospital Medicine, and the Healthcare Financial Management Association. Certain courses completed through these associations are accepted for MMM prerequisite credit. A discount is offered to physicians who complete the entire AAPL Master's Program Track, and priority admission is offered to physicians who have completed their CPE through AAPL.
