Sample Health Care Analytics Class Schedule
- At Carnegie Mellon University, courses are counted in units instead of credits.
- Three units are roughly equivalent to one credit at many of our peer institutions.
- A semester-long course is 12 units, while a half-semester class (called a mini) is six units.
The following schedules are intended to be examples of the structure of the semester. Courses may not always be offered in this fashion.
Optional Specializations and Concentrations
Health care specializations are an optional way for you to organize your elective courses toward particular careers. They provide depth in a particular area of the health care industry and allow you to illustrate your depth of knowledge to potential employers. Specializations consist of 30 elective units and are comprised of foundation electives and selected elective courses.

The Health Care Policy Specialization prepares you to create and evaluate health policies. You'll be able to think strategically about the political, economic and social environment in which health care is delivered to inform critical policy creation and analysis.
The Health Care Administration Specialization gives you the skills to lead operational business units, particularly in health systems and health insurance companies.
The Health Care Products and Entrepreneurship Specialization provides you the foundational skills to lead in the management and development of health care products. You will gain core knowledge in areas of the entrepreneurial process, product strategy, and marketing.
If you're looking to bring the latest in artificial intelligence innovation to bear on your sector of the health care industry, you can elect an optional concentration in AI Management.
