Conditional Enrollment Information

We occasionally admit students to the program with condition(s) placed on their enrollment. A condition will be clearly stated within the admission offer letter. These students must fulfill the condition(s) before the start of classes.

If You Have Condition(s) of Enrollment in Your Admission Letter

  • If you need to satisfy any of the conditions listed below, the condition will be clearly stated in your official admission letter.

  • Provide the admissions office appropriate proof of meeting the condition prior to your first class.

Typical Conditions of Enrollment

This step applies to you if you applied to Heinz before graduating with your bachelor's degree or if you did not provide an official transcript when you applied.

The transcript that was submitted to our office was not your "Final Official Transcript" because it did not include your date of graduation, name of the degree you earned and/or was not an official copy of the document. Therefore, the transcript we have on file does not provide official proof that you earned your bachelor’s degree. This is a condition of your admission and you must provide a Final Official Transcript that confirms you have received your bachelor’s degree. Please read the guidelines below very carefully before submitting your Final Official Transcript.

There are requirements that ensure your transcript is “Final” and there are requirements that ensure your transcript is “Official.” You must meet all requirements to satisfy your Final Official Transcript condition.

In order to be a "Final" Transcript, the document must:

  • be in English
  • state the title of your conferred bachelor’s degree (e.g., Bachelor of Science in Political Science)
  • state the date your bachelor’s degree was conferred
  • include the titles of all courses taken
  • list the grades or marks received for each course

An official copy of your actual Diploma/Certificate should be sent along with the Final Official Transcript when the name and/or date of the degree conferred is not specified on your transcript. If you attended a college or university outside of the United States or Australia and already provided Heinz College Admissions with your transcript through a transcript evaluation service (such as WES or ECE), you do not need to use an evaluation service when submitting your Final Official Transcript.

Timing

Order your Final Official Transcript after your degree has been conferred. Some schools actually confer degrees at a later date. Please do not send provisional certificates. Contact your institution to be sure your degree is on your transcript.

How to Submit Official Transcripts

For study completed outside of China

Official electronic transcripts and degree certificates may be sent directly from your university to: heinz-transcripts@andrew.cmu.edu.

For study completed in China

Please request your official electronic transcript via CSSD (formerly CHESICC). CSSD uses a system called Parchment to securely deliver official documents directly to our application system (Carnegie Mellon University - Heinz College). Please request the following two (2) documents:

  • Online Verification Report of Higher Education Qualification Certificate (Indicates the final completion date of your undergraduate degree) 
  • Verification Report of China Higher Education Student's Academic Transcript (shows academic performance for the entire duration of your studies).
Parchment, Credential Solutions/eScrip Transcript Services 

If your university uses one of these services for official electronic transcripts and degree certificates, please select the following recipient when placing the order: “Carnegie Mellon University - Heinz College Graduate Admission”

In some systems, you may select Carnegie Mellon University first and then select the specific office of admissions as a next step. Be sure to select the option for "Heinz College." We will not receive transcripts sent to any other office at CMU that you may see listed.

Delivery by Mail (E-Delivery Not Available)

If you cannot have an official transcript sent via electronic delivery, official paper transcripts and degree certificates should be mailed to the following address, and must arrive in a sealed, unopened envelope, signed across the seal by the registrar's office:

Paper documents that arrive in unsealed envelopes are considered unofficial and cannot be used to fulfill final transcript requirements.

New, campus-based students in Pittsburgh may hand-deliver official paper transcripts to the admissions office in Hamburg Hall (Room 1101). Hand-delivered official transcripts must be in unopened, original envelopes sealed by your university registrar. Please be sure to adhere to the current, relevant CMU Covid-19 protocols if you hand-deliver your official transcript to our office. Note that if electronic delivery is available for your official transcript, that is still the preferred delivery method for our office.

Your enrollment at Heinz is conditional upon your successful completion of an Intermediate College Algebra or Advanced College Algebra course at an accredited college or university for credit and you must earn a grade of "B" or better.

You may already be enrolled in such a course. If not, please register to take this course at an accredited college or university. Massive open online courses (MOOC) such as Udemy and Coursera are not approved.

The course must be completed prior to the start of your Heinz College program. In addition, you must request the official transcript be sent to Heinz College directly from the school where you complete the course. For any course you are currently enrolled in or plan to enroll in, you must contact the admissions office to verify that the course meets our requirements: heinz-conditions@andrew.cmu.edu 

Your enrollment at Heinz is conditional upon your successful completion of a precalculus course at an accredited college or university for credit and you must earn a grade of "B" or better.

You may already be enrolled in such a course. If not, please register to take this course at an accredited college or university. Massive open online courses (MOOC) such as Udemy and Coursera are not approved.

The course must be completed prior to the start of your Heinz College program. In addition, you must request the official transcript be sent to Heinz College directly from the school where you complete the course. For any course you are currently enrolled in or plan to enroll in, you must contact the admissions office to verify that the course meets our requirements: heinz-conditions@andrew.cmu.edu 

This requirement can be met by completing a college-level introductory course in Python (strongly preferred), Java, C++, or C# with a grade of "B" or higher. There are two methods for students to choose from to satisfy the programming requirement for AIM, MISM, MISM-BIDA, MSHCA and MSPPM-DA:

Complete the Python course via Heinz College: The free “Introduction to Python” course is available online during the summer prior to enrolling at Heinz College. For more information on our free summer course, please see our FAQs.

Complete the course at another accredited institution: The course must be completed prior to the start of your Heinz College program. In addition, upon completion of the course you must request the official transcript be sent to Heinz College directly from the university where you took the course. Massive open online courses (MOOC) such as Udemy and Coursera are not approved.

You may either choose to take a pre-approved course or choose a course on your own. If choosing a course on your own, please contact heinz-conditions@andrew.cmu.edu to determine if the course you've identified meets the pre-enrollment requirement.

Your enrollment is conditional on your successful completion of the Quantitative Skills Summer Program (QSSP), which is offered remotely for free by Heinz College prior to beginning first semester. To successfully meet the QSSP condition, students must earn a grade of "B" or better (80+%) in each of the two QSSP courses.

The Pre-QSSP Assessment will be open from Thursday, April 30, 2026 - Sunday, May 3, 2026.

The assessment will be used to gauge a student’s current quantitative skill set. This will help identify areas where instructors may need to spend additional time or inform students that additional preparation may serve them well (i.e. review of certain topics prior to the start of QSSP). The Pre-QSSP Assessment will also gauge if students have already mastered the topics covered in QSSP. If a student shows proficiency in all topics covered by QSSP, they will be able to be exempt from completing QSSP. Get more information on the Pre-QSSP Assessment.

Schedule (Subject to Change)

  • QSSP orientation will be held on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.
  • QSSP classes will begin on Wednesday, May 27, 2026.
  • Classes are held Monday - Thursday from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM (EDT).
  • Instructor/ Teaching Assistants' office hours are held Monday - Thursday from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM (EDT).
  • Review sessions are held Saturdays from 1:00 PM to 4:30 PM (EDT).
  • QSSP classes will finish on Tuesday, July 7, 2026.
  • QSSP final exams will be held on July 9 and 10, 2026.

For students who were admitted to a Heinz College program without a QSSP condition, but would like to gain a refresh on quantitative coursework related to Introductory Probability and Introductory Mathematics for Management may audit the QSSP courses. Your participation in this program will not result in a grade, and you will not receive feedback on any assignments or assessments.

Your enrollment at Heinz is conditional upon your successful completion of a college-level introductory Statistics course with a grade of "B" or higher. Students have the following options to choose from to satisfy this requirement:

  • Complete the course via Heinz College: The free, online Statistics course is available over the summer as part of our Quantitative Skills Summer Program (QSSP). This is not an option for AIM, MISM, MISM-BIDA, MSPPM-Data Analytics or MSHCA students.
  • Complete the course at another accredited college or university: The course must be completed prior to the start of your Heinz College program. Massive open online courses (MOOC) such as Udemy and Coursera are not approved. In addition, you must request the official transcript be sent to Heinz College directly from the school where you complete the course. For any course you are currently enrolled in or plan to enroll in, you must contact the admissions office to verify that the course meets our requirements: heinz-conditions@andrew.cmu.edu

Students with a Statistics condition must notify Heinz College Admissions of the option they have chosen and/or the specific information for the course that they plan to take. Students will be asked to submit an online form via their admissions portal where they can provide this course information to the Office of Admissions.

If you choose not to enroll in the online statistics course with Heinz College, you must contact the admissions office to verify that the course you are considering will meet our requirements.

If you believe you have already taken a course that fulfills this condition (and you received a “B” or better in the course) or are currently enrolled in a course that could fulfill this condition, please email the full syllabus of the course to heinz-conditions@andrew.cmu.edu.
